An important sloka from old classical text state that:
संक्रात्याधर नक्षत्रादात्मभवधि गण्यते | त्रिकं षटकं त्रिकं षटकं त्रिकं षटकं पुनःपुनः || पन्थाभोगो व्यथावस्त्रं हानिश्च विपुलं धनं | षटके भागे फलं श्रेष्ठम् त्रिकेअनिष्टम सुधीर्वर्देत ||
Which means:
Count from the Nakshatra prior to the Sankranti Nakshatra to one’s Janma Nakshatra taking 3, 6, 3, 6, 3, and 6 Nakshatras from Janma Nakshatra at a time. If Janma Nakshatra falls as:
- The First Three (if Janma Nakshatra falls in 1st to 3rd Nakshatra when counted from prior to Sankranti Nakshatra) it gives bad result –indicates travel or displacement from home,
- Next six Nakshatra (if Janma Nakshatra falls in 4th to 9th Nakshatra when counted prior to Sankranti Nakshatra) it indicates enjoyment (भोग), Participation in social/family functions, good food and meeting with desired people.
- Next three Nakshatra (if Janma Nakshatra falls in 10 to 12 Nakshatra when counted prior to Sankranti Nakshatra) gives anxiety, tension and mood suing.
- Next six Nakshatra (if Janma Nakshatra falls in 13 to 18 Nakshatra when counted prior to Sankranti Nakshatra) it gives gain of ornaments and garment, purchasing and happiness.
- Next 3 Nakshatra (if Janma Nakshatra falls in 19 to 21 Nakshatra when counted prior to Sankranti Nakshatra) indicates loss and anxiety and wandering.
- Last six Nakshatra (if Janma Nakshatra falls in 22 to 27 Nakshatra prior to Sankranti Nakshatra) indicates the gain of wealth and money.
To make it clearer, I am giving an example for the present Sagittarius Sankranti was on 16th December evening at 18:13 hours. When Sun entered the Sagittarius sign Moon was transiting Ashlesha Nakshatra in Cance. The sloka states that counting has to be done from previous Nakshatra (prior to Sankranti Nakshatra) i.e. to ascertain the result one should count from Pushya (which is prior to Ashlesha- the Nakshatra on Sankranti day) to one’s Janma Nakshatra.
Suppose one is born in Swati Nakshatra – so counting from Pushya (the Nakshatra prior to Sankranti Nakshatra] to Swati {Janma Nakshatra}) – the result is 8 i.e. Swati is the 8th Nakshatra from Nakshatra prior to Sankranti Nakshatra –the result of which is enjoyment. This result will be felt until next Sankranti.
